There's a new sheriff in town; Gunbreaker is the flavor of the month when it comes to Tanks now, and we think it's delicious.

FFXIV Shadowbringers: How to Unlock Gunbreaker & Beginner Tips Guide

With plenty of magical tricks in its arsenal, the high-risk and high-damage playstyle of the Gunbreaker is a nice change of pace from the current jobs making up the traditional Tank roster.

This isn't for the faint-hearted, especially when some of those tricks can be a double-edged sword. Before you take on the Wild West, you're going to have to actually figure out the basics of being a Gunbreaker, including which end of the gunblade is the lethal one.

The quest to kick off your Gunbreaker adventures is picked up from Gridania, and you'll notice it on your map as soon as you teleport to the New Gridania aetheryte. Also, don't forget that you'll have to pick up the Tank role quests from The Crystarium if you're choosing to go guns blazing through the expansion.

Like all other jobs, you'll get one final job-specific quest once you hit max level and will have to complete this before the credits can roll. Gunbreaker's current position is an interesting one.

Final Fantasy XIV - Gunbreaker Unlock - Job Quest 1 - The Makings of a Gunbreaker

While it's a Tank job, it has the added benefit of doing ridiculous amounts of damage, enough that it can hold its own amongst existing DPS roles. It's unlikely that Square Enix leaves this as the status quo for long, so we would recommend enjoying this while it lasts.

That being said, nerfs to the job aren't going to touch its core mechanical design, and Gunbreaker will likely always occupy a space as a much squishier alternative to the likes of Paladin and Warrior. Of course, the flashy attacks don't hurt, but Gunbreaker gives you a number of competing considerations to manage, the first of these being juggling your combinations.

Like all other Tank classes, your focus is going to be on enmity generation and keeping enemies off your more vulnerable party members.

However, the key part of playing a more vulnerable Tank class is arguably managing your own health; you're going to have to be a little more active to keep yourself alive when you're taking a beating. The Gunbreaker's mercenary-for-hire feel means that you're given the tools to pick yourself up in a pinch when the going gets tough. This will reduce your health to 1 and make you invulnerable to most attacks for 8 seconds.

Now to see how your abilities come full circle — it's all about synergy with said party. Share Tweet Email 0. How Tall Is Tom Cruise?Interested in slipping on those dancing shoes for yourself and figuring out what makes this job tic?

It's not just a matter of looking good on the dancefloor; Dancer is an incredibly combo-reliant and RNG-reliant job at its core, which adds a layer of complexity to the proceedings. If you choose to level as a Dancer through the Main Scenario Quests, you'll have to remember to pick up the requisite role quests for DPS from The Crystarium, which will eventually culminate in one more job quest at Level 80 to top everything off.

However, it's not an entirely straightforward affair of hitting something really hard with your chakram until it keels over and dies. One of the things that makes Dancer a desirable partner in a party scenario is the move of theirs called Closed Position.

Much like how Dragoons can pair up with a lucky fellow adventurer and provide them with a buff, Closed Position allows a Dancer to select a party member to benefit and proc Dancer-specific buffs. Once you get the hang of using Closed Position, the Dancer rotation relies on piecing together what is essentially a dance routine from the balletic skills available to you.

Dancers can use a number of stances: Technical Step and Standard Step. You'll also have to manage the Esprit gauge, and this grants the Esprit status to either your dance partner or multiple party members depending on whether you executed a Technical Finish or a Standard Finish. Adventurers affected by that status will grant increases to your Esprit gauge when they land attacks and skills, and you can benefit from that by unleashing a powerful AOE skill to ensure that you're doing more than just playing cheerleader.

While you're classed as a ranged DPS, quite a few of the skills in the Dancer's arsenal have a limited range. Considering how Technical Finishes work, you're going to want to be right in the thick of the action where your party members need you the most instead of hanging back on the fringes like Bards were wont to do. Picking the right dance partner with Closed Position is a consideration as well, and it may change from fight to fight.

Knowing that you're going to hit a particularly nasty healing check might mean that linking up with the local White Mage might be smart since your Curing Waltz's restorative properties may come in hand.

Another side of the same coin could be to link up with the Tank and to cut out the healing middleman if things get truly dire. It's all up to you — the world's your stage!

In the future, it will be possible to undertake further challenges to upgrade your relic. According to our experience of the old relics already available in the game, upgrading your weapon will grant it more stats — and also change its look.

The process of upgrading a relic weapon has always been very long and grindy, Square Enix also confirmed in the Patch 5. Getting your relic will first require that you clear the main story of the game — up until the "Shadowbringer" quest and the "The City of Lost Angels" man alliance raid sidequest of the "Return to Ivalice" story.

To start the questline you will first need to go to Kugane and to talk to Keiten X: The quest will lead you through a lot of talking to various NPCs in order to introduce the story, before actually getting you to work. Without spoiling the story here, you will need to clear an instanced duty. This one is quite long, and can be difficult according to the job you are playing — so having a ilevel is quite important here. Once the Instanced duty is done, there's a bit more talking and then you will be rewarded with your first Resistance Weapon, for free just a lot of work!

It IS possible to get your weapon for every class you own at Level The first step of the process is shortened, but the next steps should be of the same length each time you work on a new one.

To get a new weapon for another job you just need to gather four Thavnairian Scalepowders from Rowena's vendors in Mor Dhona or Idyllshire. The first iteration of the weapon comes with an ilevel of and five materia slots — making them the strongest weapon in the game currently.

On the other hand, given the first iteration of this relic is very basic, we can expect that the incoming upgrades are going to be a hell lot of farming! We will update this article along with new content regarding the upgrades, so make sure to check-in regularly! Linked to the The City of Lost Angels quest, what is to be expected? Check out the 5. FFXIV Gunbreaker (GNB) General Guide & FAQ (Shadowbringers Update)

Follow us:.By Cody Perez. July 9, Final Fantasy XIV Shadowbringers is the third expansion for the game, bringing the story up to the next expansion following the likes of Stormblood and Heavensward.

This expansion offers a ton of new features for players including tons of new locations, Viera and Hrothgar races, and two new job classes. The two new job classes, the Final Fantasy XIV Gunbreaker and Dancer, are arguably the most important parts of the new expansion aside from the main storyline itself. I am going to let you know everything that you need to know about what makes this tank job class stand out from the likes of the Dark Knight and Paladin tanks.

Hero Squall Leonhard wielded the gunblade, a massive sword that also acted as a gun at times.

It is also the fourth tank job to join the game, which is exciting for tank players. But, thankfully, the Gunbreaker offers some interesting gameplay that helps it stand out from its fellow two-handed sword job Dark Knight and other gun wielders like the Machinist.

In fact, Gunbreaker is one of the more complex jobs for players to check out with lots of combo options to choose from. But in order to enjoy all that this new tank job has to offer, you need to unlock it first.

To begin with, this one might seem obvious but you do need to buy the Shadowbringers expansion itself before you can unlock Gunbreaker.

On the other hand, you are able to use jobs that were introduced in the previous two expansions, be it the Dark Knight or so on. This is because the beginning quest that unlocks the Gunbreaker is set at level 60 for doing it.

As long as you own this expansion and have the required level for the first quest, you will be good to go for unlocking Gunbreaker.

When you have your level 60 Disciple of War or Magic equipped and are ready, head to or teleport to the New Gridania main Aetheryte crystal. Once you do this, you will complete the introductory quest and receive your very first gunblade.

Be sure to equip your weapon and new gear, and save it to an armory slot. Then, you want to start the next quest that will be available right then after completing the first quest. There are many abilities you already have at that level so here are the basics that you need to know about. What makes Gunbreaker so confusing is that it has a lot more abilities and weapon skills compared to other tank jobs.

This is because of its utility as well as its duality between the gun and blade. For the most part, your basic combo that you will use is the Keen Edge, Brutal Shell, and Solid Barrel combo for when you are taking on a single target enemy. This combo is strong enough on its own, restores HP, and will give you a cartridge to your powder gauge, too. From there, though, there is also the area of effect combo of Demon Slice and Demon Slaughter that you will want to use when pulling large numbers of enemies to you.

You see, the crux of balancing the gun and weapon aspects of Gunbreaker is using your various combos to build up your cartridges for using two special abilities: Burst Strike and Gnashing Fan. The former is great for using against a single enemy while the latter unlocks yet another combo to use. Using Gnashing Fang opens up a new combo as you can then transition to Savage Claw which deals more damage, and lastly Wicked Talon.

These abilities also grant some additional effects that come into play as you get into the higher levels of Gunbreaker but for now, those are the basics that you need to know about. When you start out playing Final Fantasy XIV Gunbreaker, you will find that there are numerous combos for this job, some of the most for any class in the game period.

If you are far away, you can start fights the same way as standard tanks via using your normal tank abilities. Provoke or leap in with the charge ability Rough Divide. You can also use Lightning Shot which is a ranged ability that uses your gun to attack and it increases enmity, making a great start to a fight. Then your initial ability should be Sonic Break to deal some damage over time. The Hrothgar of northern Ilsabard have passed the art of the gunblade from generation to generation.

The weapon itself combines a sword with a firing mechanism, emitting a range of magical effects by utilizing aetherically imbued cartridges. Originally employed by Queen Gunnhildr's personal guard, they were once known as "Gunnhildr's Blades" and differ greatly from the similarly named weapons used in the Garlean Empire.

Gunbreaker is a tank job that wields a gunblade in battle. Unlike the models used by the Garlean military although the starter weapon is very close, if not identical, to a kind used by Garlean forcesthe Gunbreaker's gunblades fire aetherically -charged bullets into the blade to enhance their cutting power and the force of their strikes. When fired normally, the powder coalesces into a defensive barrier that can protect the wielder and their allies from harm.

By performing combos, they can gain a cartridge with which to use a wide variety of powerful techniques. The Warrior of Light is attempting to track down a gang of highwaymen in South Shroud when they come across a pair of outlandish travelers being accosted by bandits. After rescuing them, they introduce themselves as Radovan and Sophie, recent escapees from Garlean-held territory in the north.

Radovan was once forced against his will to fight as an imperial conscript, and having cut all ties, now wishes to start a new life as a bodyguard in Eorzea. Impressed, he offers to train the Warrior of Light in the art of the gunblade.

The Warrior of Light then assists Sophie and Radovan with mercenary work, including bodyguarding for a Gridanian singer, and rescuing a child from slave traders in Ul'dah. After ending up in Ishgardthe group is tasked with escorting a defected Garlean scientist who is to oversee the installation of a ceruleum heating system in the city.

He is pursued by the Alaudaeimperial convicts who carry out missions to reduce their sentences. Their leader, Vitus quo Messallais a former imperial soldier relegated from his position for slaughtering innocent civilians. Radovan was once a candidate for the Aludae, though he refused and was tortured for it. Now that he is faced with the prospect of going toe to toe with his former tormentor, he tells Sophie not to participate in this mission, implying that she would be a burden to him.

After she storms off, Radovan admits that this was a ploy to have her stay out of harm's way, as she is to the closest thing he has to family.

The scientist introduces himself as Cato nan Mammula, and the group fends off the Alaudae and leads him to the city outskirts, where Radovan offers to continue the rest of the way alone.

When the Warrior of Light meets with Sophie and apprises her of the situation, she is shocked to hear the name Mammula; he and Midas non Garlond, father of Cid. The Citadel was the home the last few gunblade-wielding Hrothgarand Radovan is their only known survivor. It dawns on Sophie that he may attempt to exact his vengeance, and she beseeches the Warrior of Light to find and stop him. The two track down Radovan and ask him to lay down his weapon, reminding him that he gave his word to deliver Mammula from harm.

Radovan turns to leave, seeking solitude so that he may contemplate his actions. By the time Sophie arrives, he is long gone, and she takes command of the mission, leading the way back to Ishgard. The Garlond Ironworks plan to keep Mammula in a secure location until they can be sure the Aludae are gone. There is still no sign of Radovan, so Sophie decides to wait for him to come to his senses and return to Ishgard. Sophie and the Warrior of Light accept a contract from an anonymous client, but are ambushed when it turns out to be a trap planned by the Aludae.

Vitus quo Messalla had abandoned his mission to assassinate Mammula for a greater prize: the Warrior of Light. He hopes that by slaying them he can curry favor with the Empire and have his former status restored. Vitus almost defeats Sophie and the Warrior of Light when they are saved at the last minute by the surprise arrival of Radovan, who reveals that his plan for vengeance was a ruse, and that he has been secretly working with Mammula to lure out the Aludae.

After defeating the Aludae and celebrating victory, Radovan acknowledges that the time for the Warrior of Light to accompany him and Sophie on bodyguard assignments is over, as there are others who would benefit more from their strength. The group makes one final journey together to Revenant's Tollwhere Radovan hopes to find others to train in the art of the gunblade.

Having proven themselves as a worth successor, the Warrior of Light bids farewell to Radovan and Sophie to follow their own path. Radovan realizes that another Gunbreaker who survived the destruction of Bozja taught Thancred how to wield a gunblade, the trio set out to retrace their steps to find him.

They eventually return to Coerthas and find the man, Rostik, with Mammula, believing that he has sought the defector for vengeance. Rostik tells Radovan that he was discussing rebuilding Bozja with Mammula with the other Gunbreakers who survived, and tells the Warrior that he taught Thancred the way of the gunblade. He invites Radovan to rebuild their home, to which he declines, having already resolved to teach a new generation of Gunbreakers by demonstrating his prowess as a bodyguard. This guide is updated up to Shadowbringers!

Click on the class name to scroll to its more detailed section. Rogue is a little different. So any new player aspiring to be a Rogue and eventually Ninja would be best served by choosing a starter base class that spawns in Limsa, either Arcanist or Marauder.

New players wanting to play AST asap will have to take a bit of a detour. The requirements are having a disciple or magic or war at level So you might as well level up a healer. Being part of the original roster of Jobs, new players aspiring to play BRD have it easy. So hold your horses. Sadly you have to choose something else for a serious path.

As one of the Shadowbringer Jobs, Dancer requires you have a level 60 disciple or war or magic to unlock. So new players have a bit of a journey ahead before they get to shake dat booty. Technically the quickest way to level up to 60 is by taking advantage of tank or healer queues, but I would highly advise newer players to play a similar role — so starting from Archer into Bard should get you in rhythm.

New players wanting to play DRK asap will have to wait a bit. You need a Level 50 disciple of magic or war to unlock Dark Knight. My advice is to get used to tanking, and start the game as Gladiator into Paladinor Marauder into Warrior. New players who wanna squall it up as GNB will have to put in some work first.

You need an L60 combat class of any other kind. I highly recommend picking something of the same role though. So Gladiator into Paladin, or Marauder into Warrior are your best bets. New players who want to pile it in with the bots as MCH are in for a bit of work… You need an L50 combat class, which technically is easiest reached by a tank or healer. Sadly, Machinist is one of three classes that backtrack their level — starting out as a Level 30 character. Simply starting the game as Gladiator will reinforce your path straight into the shield.

New players itching to swashbuckle as RDM will have to level up another combat class to L50 first. While technically leveling a tank or healer would improve your speed I always recommend picking a similar class to kickstart your journey!

From there, get to Red Mage! However, you cannot start the game as rogue! The most efficient choice for me personally is picking any other class that starts in Limsa, Marauder or Arcanist, then switch to Rogue when able.

Er season 7 episodes

New players wanting to train in the blade of SAM have to level up another combat class to Level 50 first… Technically, the fastest way is to level up a tank or healer to take advantage of faster queues —. I always advise going for a similar role on your journey.FFXIV Shadowbringers is here and with it, of course, comes new jobs that experienced players or new ones can take on and level.

The new tank this is being added in this expansion is the Gunbreaker. Whatever you say Yoshi-P. You can find them at coordinates X The Gunbreaker has its own visual flair and DPS styles, but it also has everything you need to hold enmity, pull, crowd control, and keep yourself and your party members alive and safe. Keep in mind that as of Shadowbringers, tank stances have been dramatically changed.

What sets Gunbreakers apart is that they build up Cartridges of ammo for the gun part of their blade which can be used to open up powerful new abilities that will significantly add to your DPS.

You should build these up until Gnashing Fang is off cooldown. For example, if you are in a AoE damage situation, mix in Fated Circle when you have the spare Cartridge for it, same goes for Burst Strike which is a potency single target attack.
